Eight inch wide custom frame combing C&J frames C703 and C708. These pictures show it during the gesso, clay, and gilding stages. It will be finished in 22k gold leaf over a yellow and red bole.
This video shows the steps in the framing process after the carpentry work and hand carving have been completed. The frame is an American Impressionist style frame, C&J #C790. We have built up the rabbet depth in order to accommodate a canvas stretcher. The finish is our 22k gold antique dark finish, and is intended to match the look of the frames from this period. The center panel of the frame has an un-burnished matte finish that contrasts with the rest of the frame. The entire frame has yellow clay with red highlights on the inner and outer rails.
